BANGKOK, 14 June 2017 – The UN Refugee Agency commemorates World Refugee Day with a photo exhibition titled “Love is Boundless”. This special collaboration between UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassador in Thailand, Praya Lundberg, and high-profile supporter and top fashion photographer, Kit Bencharongkul, displays a series of 30 photos of untold refugee love stories.
“We are currently facing the worst global displacement crisis of our generation, with 65.3 million people forced to flee from their countries,” said Ruvendrini Menikdiwela, UNHCR Representative in Thailand, “It is important to remind ourselves that refugees are not numbers, they are ordinary people, in extraordinary circumstances.”
From one side of the world, the “Love is Boundless” exhibition features stories told by Praya Lundberg during her recent visit to Jordan, which currently hosts around 655,000 refugees, the majority who fled from war in Syria. “I am so grateful for those who shared their stories with me in Zaatari and Azraq camps,” stated Praya Lundberg, “As human beings, we are connected and can relate to one another through our emotions. Therefore, I decided to share refugees’ stories of love, from stories of love at first sight, to those with broken hearts.”
On another side of the world, through his lens, Kit Bencharongkul, explores what love means to refugees who have lived in Thailand for over 30 years. “I believe in the power of photography and want to use it for a humanitarian purpose,” said Kit, “The story that struck me most are teenage sisters, without parents, who told me they don’t have anyone else in the world. I hope that when people see these photos, and stories, that they care. Together, we need to stand with, and support refugees.”
The exhibition has been made possible by our generous corporate partners, who are committed to humanitarianism: Siam Paragon, Swarovski Thailand, Chiang Mai Charles Michels Co.Ltd., Amarin Printing & Publishing Public Co and Krishna Mongkol Co., Ltd.
“Love is Boundless” photo exhibition is open to the general public from 14 – 18 June 2017, at M Floor, Siam Paragon.
